A Partly Cloudy LIfe.

Daniel 12:1-13
1 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge."
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. 6 One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?"
7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed."
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, "My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?"
9 He replied, "Go your way, Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
11 "From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.
13 "As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance."

During the winter time the days get shorter, the nights get longer, and the temperatures, well, are cooler. That doesn't take away from the beauty of the starlit sky. There's always something to praise God about.

Have you ever seen a stretch of cloudy nights where you can't see the stars? It's a little disappointing because you want to experience the beauty. However, do you realize that the wonderful view of the sky isn't gone everywhere? Someone is seeing the beauty around the world. Therefore, you don't have to see the beauty of the sky every night to know it's still there.

Likewise, someone is always receiving the benefits and blessings of God. It may not seem like you are, but he never leaves you and he will certainly prove you wrong at times. Even if we can't see it, the truth lives on and the beauty is still there. Light up the world with Christ!

No matter what, there is no doubt in my mind that God's plan and story is being played out just as it's meant to happen. Our life may be cloudy, but God is still continuing his good work around us. Wait for those peaks of sunshine!

Are You on the Fence?

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Do you ever get involved in an activity that's so much a part of your routine that certain days go by and you don't even remember doing it? You wonder how you've even made it this far throughout the day when you're not even aware of what's happening. It's the most bizarre thing. Meanwhile, do you set time limits for yourself? If you have a routine, you probably complete the task at roughly the same time each day and it most likely takes about the same length of time too.

Just like in your daily routine, you don't want to spend too long on any one thing. God gives us boundaries in life. They are not meant to be just more rules and regulations to keep in mind. This, contrasts what some people think about Christianity. Anyways, the boundaries help keep you safe and secure in a world that is all too faulty and downright evil nowadays.

We need to have checkpoints throughout the day to make sure we're living according to God's word, even if it seems unnecessary. Sometimes we're on the fence when it comes to our obedience, so we must be cautious. Staying involved in the Bible and understanding God's Word are ways that can help you stay within the confines of God's boundaries.

Listening to God's Callings.

Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Have you inherited something from someone no matter how simple it seems? I have a few nice long sleeve dress shirts from my great uncle that are virtually brand new. He had so many of them. He wore one almost every time I remember visiting him. When he died in September, his daughter (my cousin) passed them on to me. While they are slightly big on me, it still serves as a keepsake and treasured representation of my uncle. Just having those shirts in my closet, gives me comfort.

Similarly, as a Christian, not all tasks that have been asked of me "fit perfectly." Often times I do my best to complete the tasks anyway because I know God has a plan. Some callings are easier than others, such as getting more involved in the Bible. Some callings are more difficult, such as being a part of a ministry in my church in which no other youth were a part of - media presentations. Both of these I have experienced success.

I promise you that God won't call you to do something if he doesn't have a special role for you. You may serve on the same committee as someone, but your purpose according to God is different. Nonetheless, the more that you delve into the opportunities the Lord gives, the more comfortable you will become.

When you hear a potentially promising calling, go ahead and put on that shirt. It may be a little big on you now, but chances are you'll fit into it eventually.

What is God calling you to do today?

God is calling me to keep blogging. Today is my 400th post!

Living in God as God.

Psalm 63:1-8
1 O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you,
my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Whenever things aren't quite normal in my house, others help us, especially our church family. For example, when someone has had surgery in the past, our church would send cards and even provide meals for us. Our church family is always a bright light during these times.

Enough gratitude can't really be expressed in a situation like that. It's also good sometimes just to grace others with your presence when they are facing times with great need. Even though it's hard when we're busy, spending time with someone is usually appreciated just as well.

The same can be said when it come to our spiritual life. We can show another act of faith by committing ourselves to something else new in the church. However, we can just as easily spend more time with God. We just don't make it easy because we don't fit it into our schedules.

So while it's good to do things for God, don't forget the obvious: to spend time with your gracious and loving God.

God Has a Sense of Humor.

Isaiah 43:19
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.

I can't believe it. Certain things you're doing now you would never have dreamed of doing in a million years. For example, if you would have asked me 3 years ago to write a Christian blog on a daily basis, I would have laughed at you. After all, I was just getting comfortable in my faith. Why would I ever want to share it with others?

Boy, does God have a sense of humor. God gives me the strength each day to share his word based on what's on my heart. He's given me the gift of being able to understand more Bible verses or at least have a somewhat valid interpretation of it. He has given me the ability to be more open about my faith. Lastly, he has given me the opportunity to learn about him through others. It is clear that God still has this role for me laid out on the horizon. However, God is always creating something new in you and me!

Did you ever notice that whenever you have the idea of something "new" in your head your mind is consumed with fear? It almost seems like a vicious cycle of three steps. Fear, prayer, skills provided by God if its in his will for you to accomplish something. It's scary. I'm not a Bible scholar, I'm just a senior in high school. However, God's working in me.

Nonetheless, God calls those who are unlikely to do the awe-inspiring things. I don't have a crystal ball, but I can tell you that God will call on you to do "new things." No worries though because God will equip us with the tools, skills, and motivation we need. So, surrender and give into something heavenly!

Oh, and I'm still waiting for the day that I become a math major because I have little sense in math!!! It comes and it goes :)

A wonderful song is "Whatever You're Doing" by Sanctus Real. It fits perfectly into today's discussion. Notice the shift in the lyrics in the last minute or so of the song. The words show some confidence initially followed by complete confidence because of God in the end.

Receiving God's Gifts.

Ephesians 2:8
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

Do you ever find it difficult to be the center of attention? I know I do. When I have a birthday party, sure it can be great to be with everyone, but it is somewhat uncomfortable to receive a handful of gifts from people. It can be intimidating. It's almost like I feel undeserving and unworthy of such kindness.

Sometimes we all feel this way when it comes to God. We sin and then it's hard to fathom how God can possibly forgive us and love us and be so generous to us. The thing that's priceless is the fact that we get God's righteousness through Jesus Christ. God loves you and me that much!

Not only that, but it's sometimes difficult to receive God's gifts as well. Don't view how worthy you are to receive God's grace based on what others or even the world has to say. The bottom is line is that God says and does what he means. Even though we can't do anything to truly deserve the grace of God, he knows that, but he wants us to have access to it because we are welcome. Our greatest gift that everyone should be willing to accept is how we're totally accepted by God through Christ.

Therefore, I leave you today by asking you not to list all the reasons why you don't deserve God's gifts, but rather show gratitude for his gifts and live in his name. This will definitely made God content.

Just Ask.

Matthew 7:7-8
7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Just a few minutes ago, I became really stressed when I got on a college kick realizing that I'm well into my senior year of high school. I was struggling with how I was going to get through the long, drawn-out process. I turned to the Bible and was led to read this passage in Matthew. I read some and then reflected. Then, I logged onto the computer, and this same passage appeared again, this time in my e-mail. That's an example of God speaking to me for sure.

So many times we want to carry the weight of life on our shoulders alone We don't have to though. Not only can you talk to family and friends, but you can ask them for help. I think it's just human nature: we don't want to admit that we don't know the answers. I know that I need to ask teachers and other adults for help on how to get through the scholarship process or to help with me anything along the way.

We can't worry about how unintelligent we may seem to be by asking for help. Therefore, seek the answers and find help. Perseverance is a very important quality in this case. We must knock! However, many times we play a sort of ding-dong ditch. In other words, we ring the doorbell, but then we quickly flee for many reasons, like being frightened or an effect of our self image as described above.

God wants us to bring in this concept into our spiritual lives as well. Any issues we have, we need to bring before him. We need to be open and honest because that is key to a healthy relationship, especially on our part with God; we know that God is never going to fail us. Don't complain, but ask the Lord for his guidance through any situation.

Push our complaints aside Lord, for you have been so kind to us. Let me focus on you and listen to your will for me today.

Tasting the Spiritual Fruit.

Psalm 34:1-8
1 I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Do you ever think something is going to taste bad until the day you try it and it tastes really good? I always thought that spinach dip would be unappetizing since I didn't like spinach. I mean that does make sense. A nice, chocolate cake that I actually like seemed better. However, I had no idea until I tried the spinach dip. So that's what I did a few years ago. I expected to have a poor taste. Meanwhile, I love to snack on it! My expectations were far different.

David invites us to taste and see the joy that God brings and his overall goodness. Usually in our Christian walk, we resist the invitation. However, I know by proceeding at my own pace, I grew in remarkable ways.

Many times we think we have to live every moment full of fun and excitement. We thought, "let's not concern ourselves with just another religion" Do the do's and don't of Christianity (all the rules) leave a bitter taste in your mouth? Maybe you've been accepting of God's truth all your life.

Despite David's difficulty in life, he still trusted the Lord. He saw first-hand the blessings the Lord has to offer. Spiritual eyes help to lead the way.

Don't starve for the love of God and miss out on the blessings he has to offer you if you truly accept him. May your bowl of fruit may be good tasting and openly received.

Gifts from the Father.

Luke 11:11-13
11 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

We all know that God answers prayers in at least a small manner, but this is an interesting scripture reading for today. If our parents can give us good gifts then it's very safe to assume that God gives us great gifts as well. Let's not assume though, let's know and understand this. God gives us his power in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Children always have a way of getting what they want. Some can't even talk yet so it's not like all of them can say why they want something. We just think that they are so cute and give in, and so we award them with toys, for example. Even for a homeless person, a person who provided them money or food, must make the decision in the first place. Compare that to God. He doesn't have to think. He knows what everyone is experiencing. God automatically bestows gifts and blessings on us and they are wonderful. God's gifts are readily available - ALWAYS!

The least we can do is ask, receive, and accept empowering and inspiring gifts from our Father in Heaven. Lord, show us this gift so we can be more like you.

Blessings to all today!

Mind Games.

Galatians 6:9
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Did you ever notice that our mind can play tricks on us? Many times it has to deal with deception and sense perception. Have you ever seen a list of those incredible illusions? You look at black boxes with a white background and they appear to be gray. This is an example of our mind deceiving us (I guess actually it's the issue with how our eyes see things and how our brain interprets it).

This weariness is just a part of living day to day. Weariness and deception are two characteristics of Satan...some of his best work. Given how busy our day is, it seems nice to stop and give someone a helping hand just like Jesus would, right? Satan doesn't think so. It's not just your eyes or your mind that's tricking you: it's the thief. It's Satan. He tries so hard everyday to steal our best judgment.

Thank God, that he can renew us. He can light our fire again even if Satan tries or successfully takes away our desire to be kind and help others. God can renew us thanks to his Holy Spirit which is in us. He does it through his Word. He does it through our prayers. He does it through our favorite worship songs. Finally, he does it through his presence.

Our spirits tend to get weary, but don't let God's hands and feet grow weary. Serve the Lord with great discipline and faith. God's mercy and love will provide us with the energy and motivation to do these great works. Chances are, if something seems beneficial and positive, God wants you to follow through with that task.

Oh Lord, grant us with your wisdom when we are tired, confused, and pressed for time today. Help us to glorify your name.

Today's extraordinary song is "What Faith Can Do" by Kutless. Let God have control of your life through great faith.

Satisfied in Christ.

Matthew 10:17-18
17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

I wonder if you read the right post yesterday. Every once in a while there's always one that haunts me and posts randomly that I'm not ready to post yet and I noticed that yesterday morning. I recommend that you read yesterday's real post about God's presence if that's not what showed up yesterday.

Anyway, we're promised by Jesus that we will suffer. That is the case even though the situation in Matthew 10 may be hard to comprehend. For many people, there is no shortcoming to the fact of suffering right now. The Haitian people are really experiencing difficult times. Those who survived the earthquake are now struggling day to day because of the lack of food and water.

Even though great pain arises when we struggle, let it benefit you in at least one way, such as a lesson that is learned as a result.

It doesn't matter where you are, you won't be able to avoid certain disasters. Even if the people in Haiti were in the little shelter they had, thinking they'd avoid any dangers on the streets, they couldn't withstand the wrath of Mother Nature.

As followers of Christ, we have to understand that suffering occurs and we should be filled with joy. If you get to know God, and are in a relationship with him, that helps significantly. God can help you through anything: big or small. He can help secure your life so that suffering doesn't knock you completely off your feet. There is no point in being fearful or discouraged when you can have the love of God within you. Remember, you should have eternal joy each day because God promises eternal salvation in him.

Faith is satisfying. While the joy from sinning may be short-lived, the joy in Christ will last forever and ever. So, in many ways in Christ we may experience more pain that doesn't mean God has gone astray. We need to be joyful not when we escape pain and suffering, but when you consider the fact that we have eternal joy and satisfaction in Jesus Christ.

I've got two good songs I want to share with you today and tomorrow. Today's song will be "Rain Down" by Delirious.

God's Presence.

Acts 4:8-13
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 He is
"'the stone you builders rejected,
which has become the capstone. 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Peter and John were brought to the elders to be questioned. They knew they were being called to exhibit kindness. When Peter and John came to the people, the people were shocked. They observed that these men were actively a part of Christ and they were with Jesus the whole time. The key here was that the men didn't have to say they spend time with Jesus on a regular basis. The Jews could actually tell that they spent time with Christ because of their actions and lifestyle.

It is for sure that Jesus altered their lives to show that God was stemming from them and transforming the lives of many others. What are the requirements of letting others see God in you? You have to be Christ-like in everything you do. The only way that this is possible is by allowing God to dwell in your soul and also by living in his presence. This means you have to make a full-blown decision. You have to understand that God's own presence is always there.

Let's face it, you can only gain rewards for being in God's presence. It will be easy for the world to recognize by the fruit that you obtain that God plays a huge role in your life.

Additionally, you'll experience great joy when you live in the presence of God's holy name. It will be poured over all areas of life. From there, you pour that love onto others who you run into.

The fact is big changes occur with God in your life. With God, you can become more like God's son, Jesus. Make God a full-time commitment today!

Loving Others in Need.

1 John 4:7
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

Where do you think love comes from? My best bet, make that I know that it comes directly from God. Not only does love come from God, but when you're in a relationship with him, love comes in that package deal. God also sets the boundaries and defines love. Do you ever feeling you want to be more loving?

I have one solution for you if that's case...turn to God. He can help you love others. He can help you come to inner peace within yourself so that you have great reason and intensity to love others. And the easiest way to do that...is to turn to Jesus. God showed us love toward Jesus. Jesus showed us his love for us by dying for our sins.

Most of all, love others so that you can create some of the only peace they may have in their lives. You never know, someone may be experiencing great turmoil. God, let us share your love with the Haitians, especially those who don't know you, in this difficult time.

Let the following song, "Follow You" remind you of those in deep affliction in Haiti along with the rest of the world who live in a violent political situation such as the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

Praising God in a Difficult Time.

Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

This is what the people all over Haiti need to hear today along with the families who are waiting for answers from their loved ones! I know it's near the end, if not the end, for the critical search for anyone still caught in the rubble. Time is running short.

However, the people of Haiti need to understand that God has not left them. As President Obama said "Haiti, you are not being forsaken." The Lord is all around the island nation, so be strong and courageous - don't be discouraged.

For all of us, sometimes worshiping God is easy especially when things are going smoothly in life. (Whether we actually worship during the easy times is somewhat variable. I know some come to God just when they're in trouble. That's a bit of a different point though). Anyways, difficulties make it hard for us to truly stand up to God and praise his name without thinking about our circumstances.

Back to Haiti, in contrast, I know I was impressed at how spiritual the people were when I visited in the summer. They were so patient too. They waited eight hours for us just to come see them. If that isn't surprising enough, they didn't have any food or water during that time and were praising God the entire duration. Now, the Haitians once again show their true spirit. 48 hours after the earthquake there were still people waiting for water because there is no fresh water in the country yet. This is also a critical time period as people certainly need water by after two or three days. What have the people been doing? Praising God in the streets and it was all caught on tape by CNN - secular news coverage - that I saw earlier. Unfortunately, I can't find any videos of it online or else I would show you just take my word for it. Keep praying!

Spiritual Gifts in a Time of Need.

Romans 12:3-8
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

I talked about spiritual gifts over a year ago using this passage, but it's good to reinforce this idea too. Meanwhile, last week I talked a little bit about how people can let us down. They're not perfect, we're not perfect, and so nothing is perfect. The things they may promise you may not necessarily follow through.

However, God keeps his promises and they're complete. I mentioned the Haitian earthquake in yesterday's post. If you noticed, since the earthquake, many organizations are packing their bags and are going to the devastated region to provide basic necessities - something that we like to be prepared for, we can't really simulate it, yet hope it will never happen. That's what happened in Haiti. Now, countries all around the world are helping out.

The people who are going over to Haiti are a great example of God's people using their spiritual gifts. Sure not all the missionaries are good leaders, but they all have at least one special gift that God granted them so that they can relieve the conditions.

I mentioned how it's our responsibility to take our part in the relief aspect. They immediately responded to the urgent situation (notice how they were thinking of others more than themselves). Obviously not everyone can go to Haiti, but you can use your spiritual gifts in some way toward this cause. Keep praying for the country and also the families who are trying to find out if their loved ones are okay.

Stronghold in Complete Devastation.

Psalm 46:1
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

While we're on the theme of responsibility this week, I find news I heard Tuesday night to be extremely ironic, yet devastating. Haiti was rattled by a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake late Tuesday afternoon followed by at least a couple aftershocks at last check. The most frightening fact about the news was that the epicenter was very near Port-Au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The population in the city is 2 million with at least 9 million throughout the entire country. The quake was so strong that it could be felt throughout the rest of the island nation, Jamaica, and even as far west as eastern Cuba. Haiti hasn't experienced a major earthquake since 1790 and thus it is extremely rare to have such a powerful one. However, it is somewhat common to have minor earthquakes because Haiti is right on a fault line. Over the last six years or so, Haiti has been reeling from devastating blows from tropical storms and hurricanes which brought heavy rain especially to the region, but Haiti certainly has not experienced a tremor like this.

As you may know, I was in Haiti with a team from my church in August in the northern part of the country, several hours from where the epicenter was. The impacts were definitely felt in that area though, just perhaps not as much damage. I know one thing about all of Haiti though: they live in extreme poverty. The landscape is treacherous, mountainous, hilly, and prone to disaster. Houses are often the equivalent of boxes or shacks adjacent or on the hills. It's hard to believe it's even of the same world.

It's so hard to fathom this calamity. I was there and I literally can't imagine how the conditions in Haiti could be any worse than they were. What little water and necessities they have are very likely gone. Even the palace and government buildings were damaged.

Given the corruption that exists in the government, I can't help but wonder whether this is an indication of change. They sure need more efficient government aid there. We don't deserve any more than the Haitians do. Why are there millions in such a difficult position? They've never done anything more wrong than we have.

Back in late August, I talked about the mission trip. Perhaps read through some of those posts again if you have time. I have been thinking about the following Bible verse lately and the case is not any different now: Acts 17:26 - From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to do something about this situation. Sure, the U.S. government will probably be quick to respond, but we have to do our part as the people do. All I want to ask you to do is pray, pray, pray, and pray hard some more. While I can hope it won't be the major catastrophe that everyone's expecting, I know it's inevitable. We just need pray for the relief efforts and future of Haiti. This country needs God to surround them in every way possible being "God is our refuge, strength, and an ever-present help in trouble."

Strict Accountability.

John 3:18-19
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

No day ever passes without difficulty when you think about it. You always have to make decisions - probably hundreds a day. Some decisions naturally are going to be wise and some, well not so much. You have to make decisions even if you stay out of the public eye all day. Chances are if you stay at home for a day, you're still keeping busy with household chores.

I know there isn't a day that passes without me knowing most of what I've done. I can't help but realize that we are going to be held accountable for our behavior one day.

It's pretty simple. If you believe, you won't be condemned and if you don't believe, you will be condemned. No matter where we go, heaven or hell (hopefully the former), we will stand before the face of God and he will judge us based on how well we've spent our time on Earth.

Realize today that everything has an eternal consequence. Think before you act. Remember, it's your responsibility to watch your actions and behave appropriately - not God's. God is here, however, to offer you eternal salvation.

A little late, but a little something on changes for the New Year. How are your changes working out?

Blood of Jesus.

Matthew 27:24-25
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!"
25 All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!"

I don't know about you, but I wash my hands frequently. I just always feel better if I always have my hands clean. Whether or not there's ketchup or dirt on my hands, I'd prefer to have the soft, clean feeling after washing them.

I guess you could say that washing your hands seems slightly suspicious almost as if trying to remove some evidence. That's certainly the way it seems in this case. Pilate appeared to want to claim innocence after demanding Jesus to be crucified, which was certainly traditional behavior of Jews. He must have wanted to remove any evidence off his hands so he didn't get blamed for Jesus' death.

We do things everything that are undeserving of Jesus' blood. Yet, it's still offered to us because Christ died for us. The blood of Christ is available to us through great mercy.

Be responsible for your own wrongdoings, yet go appreciate God's grace and mercy today. Seek refuge in the blood of Jesus Christ!

A good song for today is "Nothing But The Blood" by Matt Redman and various artists.

Today's Agenda.

Proverbs 19:21
21 Many are the plans in a man's heart,
but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.

Happy Saturday! We're now are a little more than a week into the New Year. I hope all is going well with your (renewed) commitments. Stay strong!

Meanwhile, as far as I'm concerned it's a pretty busy day for me. It seems like I spend a lot of time doing homework, ions and ions of it, even on the weekend. Any little thing I have to accomplish must be scheduled around all my homework or else it will simply not get done. I always try to plan as best I can. However, I do need to work other things into my schedule because there's much more to life than being stuck at home doing homework.

Enough about my plans...what are your plans for the day? Do you have an appointment? A project to work on outside? I think it would be wise if we seek God in prayer about our schedule each day. That way, we can get done what we must, while still having fun. Otherwise, we get stuck in our repetitious ways, which is never good.

It's not all about us though and that's definitely something that is extremely important. We need to always live humbly and realize the only plans that are beneficial to us are those plans that are in accordance with the Lord.

Help us realize, Oh Lord, that each achievement is because of your awesome grace. May your will be evident in our decisions today!

Taking People for Granted.

Isaiah 2:22
22 Stop trusting in man,
who has but a breath in his nostrils.
Of what account is he?

You've heard me say before that we take so many things for granted. It's certainly true. We have a roof over our heads and food on the table, for example. However, how often do you think about taking people for granted?

Our family and friends do a lot for us. They seem to always be there to talk to when it is necessary. They're the people who we seek when we're faced with difficult times. However, one day may come around and this plan may not work out. Then, we tend to play the "if only" card. "If only my friend still lived near me." What we don't realize is that people will fail us at one time or another. It may not be on purpose, but the fact is, it still happens to people everyday. We have to be prepared for that and we can't use people all the time or take them for granted.

We all are subject to error and making bad choices, thus usually the source of our disappointment or maybe other people's doom. Although God wants and expects us to be a part of the lives of other people, it is essential to keep close terms with God and know that God will never fail us. Remember, he will never go too far away from you!

Ask God for forgiveness today for putting all of our pressures on others and then becoming disappointed. Finally, remember that God is the ultimate source of hope for all...forever and always!

Aching for God.

Isaiah 26:9
9 My soul yearns for you in the night;
in the morning my spirit longs for you.
When your judgments come upon the earth,
the people of the world learn righteousness.

We often like the idea of escaping reality. For many people, it was in the last couple weeks because it was Christmas. Millions traveled out of town and had other ideas other than home on their agenda for Christmas. It never fails: it's always great while it lasts. However, there's nothing like sleeping in your own bed. That along with being homesick may be some of the few things that we miss while we're away.

Whatever the case, I know we've all missed someone or something. Our heart just aches to be reunited with those dreams and desires even if it's just that one thing.

Does your spiritual life ache as you long to be with God? Do you have an aching to be in his presence? Sometimes God is the missing part of our soul that we need to remind ourselves of everyday.

Sure, we get spiritually hungry sometimes and that's good. It shows a growing relationship with God. Fill this chilly void by spending time with God acknowledging his name and presence. Additionally, declare your true desires and affections to the Lord day after day.

Dressing for God.

Ephesians 4:24
24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

I don't know about you but I'm definitely not a morning person. Waking up at 5 AM is too early and it takes me what seems like just about all day to wake up and then it's time to go to sleep all over again. That doesn't make it easy to get ready in the morning. One of biggest difficulties is figuring out what I'm going to wear. I have plenty but I can't always decide. Plus, I try not to wear something that I wore in the last few weeks. Then again, certain clothes are more comfortable than others. I can't believe I care so much about this. So I guess that's one of my many idiosyncrasies.

Anyways, no matter what we decide to wear each morning, we have to remember to put on the armor of God (doesn't say in this verse but it does mention in the book of Ephesians which I have discussed before). Also, as this verse suggests, we need to put on the person that God made us to be...as Christians. Certainly, God isn't calling you to be fake. Be your true self and there were will be less questions asked especially in the long term. These clothes will always fit us for they consist of our character!

May people today see Jesus in you. Ask God to guide you throughout the day and do as we would do in all situations.

The Hideout.

Psalm 62:6-8
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.

We all have our favorite places to go when we're fearful or looking for refuge and safe shelter. What's yours? Is it your room? your church? Do you have a lucky object?

Back in King David's time, an all too common hideout was the "rock" in the desert. This was the stronghold. David realized that his safety was a direct result of God's grace - the truest rock, fortress and stronghold ever.

Sometimes our places of refuge will let us down. So many places and items are temporary in this world and we shouldn't take them for granted.

Meanwhile, there's nothing that we can appreciate more however than God's safe refuge. He can read and understand us better than anybody. He reaches out his arm to help us when we're in need. He has made a promise and he holds us safe in his arms.

Those last words lead me to the song "Safe" by Phil Wickham. It's amazing and you should spend a few minutes and listen to it. It'll definitely give you a leap of encouragement on this Tuesday.

You will see the red bar along the bottom advance (speed depends on your Internet connection). God Follows Your Shadow.

Psalm 91:1-6; 14
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

My youth director posted verse 14 on facebook last week and it's perfect because we're approaching the most difficult time of the year for many. Now that the holidays are over, any happiness and joy are often replaced by stress and depression from all the expenses that are expected to be paid off.

That's why I wanted to talk about security in God today. Well, I have something to tell you; there is hope. God is always near even when you are in harm's way.

I love the fact that God will take us under his wing. If we know simply that God is all around us then it will help us when we have physical challenges along with spiritual challenges for he gives us strength and wisdom.

God's tenderness is shown in the end when he says those who love me and acknowledge my name will be rescued and saved. He hears our cry in the biggest of battles.

Read all of Psalm 91. It is a very good chapter. In fact, you should print it out from biblegateway.com and put it somewhere you look everyday. If you become discouraged in the next month or so, read Psalm 91.

Wasting Time.

Psalm 90:12
12 Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

I can't believe how quickly time has passed. As I said the other day, I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon. A lot of times though we get so involved with one obsession or one hobby that we don't pay attention to anything else and let time pass by aimlessly.

We make many promises in our time, yet if we spend too much time on any one thing we can let people down. Our seemingly good deeds have now been left undone. Eventually the strange essence of time comes around again. One day, turns into days, weeks, and months. It gets discouraging when we finally realize we didn't stick to our promises.

Think about how many times we upset God with our decisions to be obsessed in one thing. Usually that one thing isn't spending time with him. Our time has to be balanced between the personal, social, and spiritual areas of our lives.

Ask God to help you with this so that the problem doesn't arise. We need to go to him so that he helps us see our plans of our days in a way that honors the Lord and blesses others.

Happy New Year!

Proverbs 21:30
30 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan
that can succeed against the LORD.

Happy New Year! It's the first year of 2010. From my family to yours, I wish you a blessed and healthy year.

Are you on your way to making your New Years resolution(s) come true? A new year can be great. You can start off to a fresh start doing all sorts of good things. The problem is making it last more than one day.

I got to thinking after telling you yesterday to read a chapter from the Bible a day, while that may be a start, there is a problem. I didn't emphasize the importance of the idea before that though...spending time with God!

Sure you can read anything, but it doesn't have to phase you. Similarly, you can read the Bible everyday, but you can be reading it just to read it. This way, you have something to tell your friends that you did to meet your New Years resolution. However, you didn't have the "spending time with God" part while reading the Bible. There is a difference because as you read the Bible you should learn to feel the Holy Spirit or be able to read so that at least something stands out to you.

Nonetheless, you have to walk with God to make your spiritual life a success. That's the bottom line. It's time to commit your life to serve the Lord for the years (and decades) to come. Finally, let's accomplish what God would want us to accomplish. That should be your resolution as we go out with the old and in with new.
