Don't Leave Leftovers for God.

Proverbs 3:9
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;

How often do you go out to lunch and can't finish your food? Sometimes, we don't gauge our appetite right and therefore we have to take home our lunch to have for leftovers in the next day or two. While we're seemingly not wasting our lunch this way, sometimes we can because we forget that it's in the refrigerator and then we end up throwing it out. Either way, even if we do eat the food, it's arguably not as good as it was originally.

The point of today's proverb is that God should come first in everything; we must honor him in all we do. We shouldn't give him the last or the leftovers because that's just pitiful. Look at what he gives you: the first and the best. He gives all his gifts of love and grace through his one and only son Jesus Christ. It's an incredible gift that we're cheating God with if we just give him the leftovers in return. What if he did that to us? How could we possibly give him anything less than our first and very best?

Lord, thank you for all the gifts you shower on us each day. Let us freely and openly offer our hearts and best gifts to you before anything. May we be more like you. Show us the benefits of a life-long commitment to you and your kingdom work.

Even if you box up your lunch sometimes or give your dog scraps of food from the dinner table, don't give God that stuff. Give him the real deal just like he deserves!
