Two Very Different Treasures.

Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Everyone has possessions that they really take for granted and just enjoy, whether it's the cell phone or the computer. Most of them are material items.

What is the first word that sticks out when you read the scripture above? For me it is treasure. Treasures are things we long for. Jesus wants us to realize that there's a difference between treasures here on earth and the ones in heaven. He also says don't get used to what goes on around here.

We have a fascination of earthly treasures over heavenly treasures. However, heaven's treasures deserve more value than those hear on earth. After all, the ones on Earth will be gone once you die. Treasures exist in heaven and should be more meaningful because they come directly from God and will bring us closer to him.

Earth's treasures are temporary, while heaven's treasures are spiritual ones that last forever. Remember that the next time you go to buy a new video game or car.

Jane Austen's quote "One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other" makes me wonder if this is what God is thinking. I'm pretty sure it is...heaven's treasures are unimaginable at this stage of our lives.
